Furthermore, in the 64 bit PC, Linux has been THE game to play. Microsoft may find itself in the same position as CP/M in 1983, or MVS in 1992, or OS/2 in 1991. They will buld it, but nobody will buy. If Microsoft is smart, they will package Vista as a modular set of components, which can be cross-configured.
